Lady of the House

Darkness seeps under doors,

Stealing through the cracks.

It slinks along the corridors

And eats her from within.

Ivy clings to her frail frame,

It holds her standing tall.

But inside she is weeping

From memories long gone.

Empty rooms of ash and gloom

Old footprints in the dust.

She saw them all pass on by

While she just stood and watched.

Now windows locked, bolts rusted shut,

The welcome mat long gone.

Forgotten portraits tell no tale,

Their souls encased in frame.

Cast aside, neglected,

Just brick and crumbling stone.

What once was home and family,

Is now just her alone.

Lost and forgotten,

Her walls hold nothing more.

Only silence sings its sorry song,

As her abandoned corpse decays.
